I can hardly believe I’m writing this, but the launch of my third psychological thriller, The Harrogate Spa Murders, is almost here.
The ebook will be released on 19 July, which means these are the final days to pre-order it for only 99p. This is a limited-time pre-order price, and it will increase after the book is released.
If you love locked-room mysteries, complicated characters, buried secrets and murder in places where murder really should not happen, this may be your next read.
Harrogate made me do it
They took my phone away.
The idea for this book came during my visit last year to Harrogate and its beautiful Turkish Baths. Before the treatment began, I was asked to surrender my phone for two entire hours.
As a perfectly normal adult with a perfectly normal phone addiction, I was immediately terrified.
What was I supposed to do with all that uninterrupted time?
Apparently, the answer was to plan two murders.
Fictionally, of course.
By the time I left, the earliest pieces of The Harrogate Spa Murders had begun to form. Harrogate gave me the setting, the atmosphere and the inspiration. My slightly overactive imagination did the rest.
There was something irresistible about placing a psychological thriller inside a spa. It should be one of the safest, calmest places imaginable. Guests surrender their phones, change into identical robes and move together through a carefully controlled series of treatments.
They are expected to relax.
They are also cut off from the outside world.
And once I started thinking about that, the spa became the perfect place to trap a group of people who all had something to hide.
What is The Harrogate Spa Murders about?
Eight guests enter The Thorne Spa. Six will leave alive.
In the heart of Harrogate, The Thorne Spa promises silence, luxury and its famous Three Heat Journey.
For Chloe Summers, it should be the perfect escape, even if spending the day with her immaculate, impossible mother already feels like punishment.
But Chloe is not the only guest hiding discomfort behind a robe and a polite smile.
A nervous man watches the exits.
A glamorous wife trembles beside her powerful husband.
A first date is not quite a first date.
And written on the spa walls is a promise that feels less soothing by the hour:
Restore what the world has taken.
By the end of the day, two guests will be dead, every lie will begin to surface, and Chloe will realise that the most dangerous thing inside The Thorne Spa is not the heat.
It is the truth someone has killed to keep buried.
A Harrogate launch for a Harrogate murder mystery
The ebook launches on 19 July, and then I’ll be taking the book back to the place that inspired it.
The official book launch will take place on Saturday 25 July, during the Harrogate Crime Writing Festival. I genuinely cannot imagine a better place to celebrate the release of a murder mystery set in Harrogate.
Seeing this story go from a slightly murderous idea conceived inside the Turkish Baths to a finished book I can hold in my hands has been surreal. I’m incredibly excited to finally share The Thorne Spa, its guests and all their secrets with readers.
Final days to pre-order for 99p
The 99p ebook price is available only during the final days of the pre-order. Once the book is released, the price will increase.
So, if you are ready to enter The Thorne Spa, now is the perfect time.
Just remember to leave your phone at reception.
Thank you, as always, for reading, sharing and supporting my books. I cannot wait for you to discover what happened inside The Thorne Spa.
Happy reading!
Until next time,
Mona W. Gloss
